The infamous history of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours meets the creative flair of Daisy Jones & The Six (2024) and Almost Famous (2000) in this endearing rom-com-drama I’ve titled Overtime.
The film follows Casey Kimmit, a heartbroken rockstar who decides to write and release a song using the poetry of his now ex-girlfriend Stella, a nurse in New York City working towards med school. He accidentally writes a number one hit – and simultaneously ropes Stella into being hired as his song writer. His team promises to pay her enough to send her to med school, so she puts her feelings aside and the two begin re-making the album. But how will they manage to remain professional while working on an intimate project and also dealing with the grief of no longer being together?
The story showcases many themes such as friendship, platonic and romantic love, nostalgia, and “letting go”. A quote that also inspired me while writing it comes from David Foster Wallace, which is “Everything I’ve ever let go of has claw marks in it.”
A mood board I created to reflect the film. This is also the cover I used for the playlist I made to help me write the story; this is something I do with every work. The music allows me to tap into the minds of my characters and assists me to write the narrative.
